Final preparations are underway to open the doors to Walkersville’s new library. The new facility will open on Saturday, March 10, 2018.

Located on South Glade Road, the 15,000 square-foot facility will replace the current and smaller Walkersville library.

The new building will offer an expanded collection; a science, technology, engineering and mathematics lab; meeting rooms; computers and more to better meet the needs of the community. The facility will also feature an early literacy play and learning space for the community’s youngest patrons. The dedicated space will include fun, interactive and educational elements designed to excite children and instill a love for reading. The space will feature a dairy truck and farm house to reflect Walkersville’s heritage.

“We’re excited to have a facility where we can hold events that match the size and enthusiasm of our community,” said Robin Bowers, Walkersville Branch administrator.

Ms. Bowers took GladeValley.net on a tour of the new library this past week. While there are still some finishing touches, the library already looks great! The new library will be a true jewel for Walkersville. With quiet rooms, Teen Room (with gaming area), Childrens area, meeting rooms, and comfortable seating areas to read, the Walkersville Public Library has something for everyone.

The March 10, 2018 Grand Opening will be a day-long celebration, beginning with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 a.m. and followed by a variety of activities for the entire family. In advance of opening the new library, the current Walkersville library will close beginning February 19, 2018. Visit fcpl.org for additional details regarding the closure.
